The Architectural Institute of British Columbia and Engineers and Geoscientists BC have partnered to develop two full-day sessions on the new BC Building Code, which came into effect December 10, 2018. Interested parties can register for one or both days. Remote access will be available to those who are not able to attend in-person.
Day One – Friday, February 22, 2019
The first day will cover Part 1 (General), Part 2 (Administrative Provisions), and Part 3 (Fire Protection, Occupant Safety and Accessibility) of the BC Building Code 2018. This program was developed by the Certified Professional (CP) Committee and was delivered to CPs in the fall of 2018. New material on access for persons with disabilities will be included.

Day Two – Friday, March 8, 2019
The second day will cover Part 4 (Structural Design), Part 5 (Environmental Separation), Part 6 (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), Part 7 (Plumbing Services) and Part 10 (Energy Efficiency) of the BC Building Code 2018. Part 4 will provide a general update on the new code, with Part 5 addressing both building envelope changes and new requirements for acoustic performance. Part 10 will include new Energy Step Code changes recently implemented by Ministerial Order. Please note Part 9 will not be addressed in these sessions – Part 9 update resources are available through BC Housing and BOABC.

Registration for the Updated BC Building Code 2018 Sessions is now open on the Engineers and Geoscientists BC website. If you are not a member of Engineers and Geoscientists BC, you will need to click on the “Create new account” button and create a non-registrant account to register for the sessions.

Please note the AIBC/Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia BC Building Code 2018 Sessions and the above courses do not cover the Vancouver Building Bylaw, as a new VBBL has not yet been published. It is expected in 2019.
