This is a public and Registrant notification that the updated AIBC Bylaws, including amendments to the “Project Takeover” Professional Standards, are now in effect.
Approved by the AIBC Board in April 2024, the Bylaw amendments were submitted to the Office of the Superintendent of Professional Governance for approval and filing with the minister. After review, the Superintendent declared the Bylaw amendments in force, effective May 1, 2024. The updated AIBC Bylaws (PDF) are now available on the AIBC website.
A summary of all the amendments can be found in the AIBC Bylaws Amendments Chart, as well as on the Project Takeover Professional Standards webpage. There are several noteworthy changes of which AIBC Registrants must be aware – these changes are summarized below:
- Project Takeover Professional Standards (PS: 2.2, 5.9, 5.10, and 5.11)
This suite of Professional Standards, found in Schedule A: Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, establishes the requirements a Registrant must follow when taking over a Project for which another Registrant is, or has been, retained. The amendments simplify and modernize these standards to better reflect the public interest. A detailed description of the amendments can be found on the AIBC website, which includes a summary chart and a recording of the consultation presentation.
- Reinstatement for CES Participants
Amendments were made to the CES Board Rules (Schedule P: Board Rules for the Continuing Education System, paragraphs 8.1–8.6) to include provisions related to reinstatement of CES Participants (Architects, Intern Architects and Architectural Technologists). The updates provide clarity on the CES requirements at the time of reinstatement. Registrants are encouraged to review the Bylaws for further details.
- Firm Certificate of Practice Course Requirements – Coming January 2025 (Bylaw 5.26)
As of January 1, 2025, Firm Registrant applicants (new Firms) must take an AIBC-specified course as a prerequisite for issuance of their Certificate of Practice. Firm continuing education requirements do not apply to Inactive Architectural Firms. Additional details about the course will be shared once available.
- Re-instatement Exam Process for Architectural Technologists (Bylaw 4.25)
Bylaw 4.25 has been amended to include the requirement for an examination as part of the reinstatement process for Architectural Technologists who have not been registered with the AIBC for three or more years.
