Meet the AIBC Volunteers
AIBC volunteers have a wide range of backgrounds and expertise, along with different reasons to get involved with the Institute. To share their unique experiences and stories, we have profiled several individuals who explain the value they have received from volunteering, as well as provide advice to others interested in becoming an AIBC volunteer.
Janet Lutz Retired Architect AIBC | Volunteer since 2003.
Q: What do you enjoy most about volunteering with the AIBC?
A: I have enjoyed working with architects who have a wide variety of experiences and perspectives, on issues concerning a profession I value and respect. By volunteering, you meet others who inspire you and make you proud of your profession. I have also enjoyed being able to work with, and learn from, the staff at the Institute.
Q: What advice would you give others who are interested in volunteering?
A: My advice for those who have not become involved with the Institute would be to identify a challenge or topic you feel passionate about, and then find the opportunity within the professional community to pursue its visibility, development and resolution. Volunteering is a great way to achieve that!
John McCormack Architect AIBC | Volunteer since 1974.
Q: What do you enjoy most about volunteering with the AIBC?
A: I have enjoyed all my committee endeavours, as they have been enriching experiences. I’ve enjoyed meeting with fellow architects, many of whom have become friends, as we dealt with and debated the matters of our committees.
Q: What advice would you give others who are interested in volunteering?
A: I’ve always believed that self-governance is a privilege. We should never be too busy to volunteer – I have learned so much, and that’s reason enough to join a committee.
Adam Policzer Retired Architect AIBC | Volunteer since 1995.
Q: Why did you start volunteering with the AIBC?
A: I started volunteering to give back a bit of what I received from other volunteers who helped me throughout the registration process, and to help maintain the high level of professionalism in the architectural field.
Q: What advice would you give others who are interested in volunteering?
A: My advice to potential volunteers: Do it!
Volunteer Opportunities
Shaping the profession. Contributing to the community. Furthering self-regulation.
The AIBC Volunteer Program is an initiative that supports registrants and members of the public in contributing to the mandate of the Institute and the architectural community in British Columbia. Consisting of more than 25 operational boards, committees, panels, task forces, and other initiatives, the program provides many ways to get involved in areas as diverse as registration pathways, intern program support, professional conduct and ethics, investigations, design and continuing education.
