Passive House Canada – 120B: Understanding and Working with the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP)
3-day course, March 1-3, 2018
Building standards and codes in Canada are moving towards requiring buildings achieving high-performance standards. This three-day workshop enables you to take on your first Passive House project. It provides step-by-step instruction for using the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) energy-modelling software, which is essential for designing a Passive House building. It helps designers and architects determine how architectural choices and design features will affect the energy efficiency of high-performance buildings, and how to compensate for decreased efficiencies.
Participants learn the structure, inputs and outputs of PHPP, and how to select appropriate climate data sets and record building measurements. A sample Canadian project is modeled, allowing participants to assess building heat loss, energy demand and summertime overheating risk, as well as look at the reliability of data sources and how design decisions impact the building energy demand.
Recommended for anyone who will be directly involved in the design, construction and energy modelling of Passive House buildings, including architects, engineers and design professionals, and anyone pursuing the Certified Passive House Designer/Consultant designation.
