FAQs

I have been registered as an Architect at the AIBC (MAIBC or Architect AIBC) for more than 40 years,
can I have my fees waived?

The recognition of long-standing registration applies exclusively to Retired Architects AIBC.

Can I get a refund on my previous years’ fees?

No, this waiver cannot be applied retroactively. It applies to future fees only.

I am a former Architect AIBC and have resigned fully. Can I join the AIBC as a Retired Architect AIBC?
Will my fees be waived?

Yes, you can join as a Retired Architect AIBC, and if you meet the criteria then you will be eligible for a waiver of annual fees. The time spent not registered at the AIBC cannot be counted towards the 40-year period.

I am a former architect from another province, but never registered at the AIBC. Can I join the AIBC
as a Retired Architect AIBC and have my fees waived?

It is necessary to have been an Architect AIBC first, even if it was years ago. If you meet the necessary qualifications to become a Retired Architect AIBC you can apply to be a Retired Architect AIBC. Until you have had a registration history of 40 years with the AIBC, you will not be eligible to for an annual fee waiver.

Why do I have to confirm my waiver every year?

Retired Architects AIBC are registrants listed in the register. They are required to comply with the Professional Governance Act, AIBC Bylaws, and the AIBC’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. As such, we need to maintain current contact and registration status information.
