Municipal Advisory Design Panel Opportunities

Architects AIBC are invited to submit an application to serve on a municipal
advisory design panel. The AIBC provides architect-member nominations to more than 25 ADPs in British Columbia and is seeking new volunteers to serve on these panels. Read more.

On-Demand Courses Available in AIBC Course Portal

Several new on-demand courses have recently been added to the AIBC Course Portal, including the Mandatory Firm Registrants Course, the 2024 BC Building Code Update Course, and the Adaptable Dwelling Units Course. Those interested in taking the courses can register through the Portal. Read more.

AIBC Volunteer Program

The AIBC Volunteer Program offers opportunities for Registrants and the public to advance the Institute’s mandate by contributing their expertise and knowledge. The Program supports a range of regulatory initiatives – all current volunteer openings are posted on the website. Read more.

AIBC Happenings

  • A recent case of fraud involving an Architect’s Seal in Ontario reinforces the importance of using secure, encrypted digital sealing technology to ensure the authenticity of sealed documents.
  • There are 11 months until the CES Reporting Period deadline. A total of 36 Learning Units, including two Core LUs dedicated towards Indigenous Peoples Learning, must be earned and reported before June 30, 2026.

Intern Architect Happenings

  • The application period for the Fall 2025 Oral Exam is now open. Experience hours for eligibility must be submitted on or before the application deadline date of August 22. Refer to the Oral Exam

  • Revisions have been made to the BC Building Code. While most changes are editorial, several updates to the adaptable dwelling unit provisions and seismic requirements for houses and small buildings are notable.
  • Participate in the BC Building Code Compliance Tool Survey by August 29.
  • The City of Vancouver has launched a streamlined permit process for smaller multiplex projects.
  • The Architecture Foundation of British Columbia is hosting architectural walking tours of downtown Vancouver throughout the summer. Tickets are now available.
