Canada Masonry Design Centre – Modern Masonry Design Solutions for BC
This is a 2-hour crash course presented by CMDC’s Monica Guzman, M.Sc., P.Eng., and Bennett Banting, Ph.D., P.Eng., designed to help architects balance sustainability, durability, and constructability in masonry design. The session covers embodied carbon, Division 04 masonry specifications, and detailing strategies under the 2020 National Building Code of Canada. The first hour explores net-zero design, innovations to reduce embodied carbon, and interpreting life cycle and EPD data. The second hour focuses on masonry materials, CSA standards, common design issues, and practical guidance for specifications, construction, and inspection. Lunch and refreshment will be provided.
