The AIBC has several affiliate categories for individuals who are not registrants of the AIBC but who wish to be connected to AIBC activities. Joining the AIBC as an affiliate may also serve as a stepping stone for individuals who are working towards their registration requirements.
As an affiliate, you are eligible to receive reduced fees on professional development courses, invitations to AIBC events and a subscription to the monthly AIBC Connected e-newsletter. Some affiliates may also be eligible to post on the AIBC Classifieds website. To apply as an affiliate with the AIBC, see application processes and forms under Affiliate Resources.
Note: Affiliates are not registered with the AIBC. They do not have any practice rights or rights to titles or designations in relation to the AIBC. They are also not entitled to vote nor be listed on the AIBC Register.
There are four affiliate categories:
Architectural Technologist Applicant: Applicants who are working to fulfill the requirements for registration as an Architectural Technologist AIBC are recommended to apply as architectural technologist affiliates. In particular, affiliate status enables applicants to connect to the AIBC for advice on meeting education/experience requirements for registration, as well as receive reduced rates for the mandatory Ethics, Act and Bylaws course and reminders/information about courses and exam sittings.
Broadly Experienced Applicant (BEA): BEA candidates are working to fulfill the requirements for registration as an Architect AIBC.
Broadly Experienced Foreign Architect (BEFA) Applicant: The BEFA Program, administered by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB), is an alternative pathway to licensure geared towards foreign licensed architects. BEFA candidates are working to fulfill the requirements for registration as an Architect AIBC.
Student: Architecture students, students enrolled in an architectural technologist program and RAIC’s Syllabus students. The annual fee is waived for students with proof of enrollment in a CACB accredited professional degree program (e.g. Master of Architecture program), an AIBC-approved technology diploma program, or the RAIC Syllabus program. Student affiliates are eligible for the AIBC’s scholarship program.
Please note that architectural technologist affiliates, BEA candidates and BEFA applicants pay an annual fee; refer to Bulletin 1: Fees, Fines and Charges for the current fee schedule. Fees are waived for students affiliates with proof of status as a student.
