Municipal Matrix

The Municipal Matrix is a compendium of local government building requirements, in addition to the BC Building Code, that affect the design, review, or other responsibilities of registered professionals. It is not a comprehensive list, and users are responsible for checking with the individual local authority to determine the current and specific requirements, and how they might apply to a specific project.

The BC Building Act, which came into effect March 25, 2015 will affect some, but not all, of these requirements, as of December 15, 2017.

Read about the BC Building Act and the anticipated timeline for changes.

The Municipal Matrix is kept accurate and relevant by the volunteer work of individual members. Those who are aware of unique requirements in municipal building bylaws and their related documents are invited to submit a report to the AIBC. The editors at the AIBC will review the material and adjust the matrix as required.

To make a report, please list the following features:

• Name of municipality.
• Name and date of enacted bylaw.
• Specific references by clause number and page of the noted requirements.
• Suggested categories in the matrix that you think might be affected.
• Contact info (optional) , if you would be available to provide follow-up discussions with the AIBC , for information purposes.
