Canadian Centre for Healthcare Facilities – Planning for Climate Resilience in Healthcare Facilities

Enhanced resiliency for healthcare facilities to meet clinical care needs in an energy efficient and environmentally sustainable manner is critical to the planning of the future of healthcare facilities. BC is a leader in incorporating climate change resiliency requirements into their design. This session will overview the newly released BC Guidelines for Healthcare facilities, which applies to hospitals, LTC and social housing and was built on lessons from global projects and local project including St. Paul’s, Royal Columbian Hospital and others.

Following the session, participants will be able to:

Describe the key climate risks facing health care facilities.
Explain how the Resilience Guidelines guide the planning, procurement and implementation phases of the health facility lifecycle.
Identify how design teams might integrate climate resilience into architectural and engineering components of facility design.
