Collaborating with Kengo Kuma & Associates Architects on the Alberni Project: an Executive Architect’s Perspective from Conception to Completion

Merrick Architecture will detail their successful collaboration as Local Collaborating Architect with Kengo Kuma as Temporary Licensee (Architect) in realizing the 1568 Alberni project, covering the collaboration between the two parties and giving the background and execution of some of the detailing of this iconic building.

Louise Webb Architect AIBC, ARB, Dip. Arch., Principal, Merrick Architecture – Borowski Sakumoto McIntyre Webb Ltd. Louise Webb joined Merrick Architecture as one of the project architects for the substantial team effort required for Vancouver’s Olympic Village. She brought with her a proven track record of working on fast track and high density housing projects both in the US and British Columbia. Louise became an equal partner at Merrick Architecture in January 2019. She is presently engaged on completing the extensive renovation of a Class C heritage building in Vancouver and is completing 1568 Alberni project in collaboration with Kengo Kuma & Associates on which she started 8 years ago as the project architect.
Mark Zaitsoff Architect AIBC, LEED® AP, MRAIC, M.Arch, Managing Associate, Merrick Architecture – Borowski Sakumoto McIntyre Webb Ltd.
Mark Zaitsoff graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2003. He worked for a small Winnipeg architecture firm with a focus on rural and remote educational facilities in Manitoba and Northern Ontario. In 2006 he relocated to Vancouver and joined Merrick Architecture, completing his internship in 2009. In his time with Merrick, Mark has worked on a variety of projects including the LEED ND documentation team for the Vancouver Olympic Village, Riverway Golf Course Clubhouse, Taylor Manor Social Housing, and for the past 5 years has been focused almost exclusively on 1568 Aberni, by Kengo Kuma.
