EGBC – Application of Multi-Criteria Decision Making in Water Treatment Process Selection
In the past, engineering projects typically involved a limited group of stakeholders, including the owner, architect, engineer, and contractor. Recently, however, the list of stakeholders has expanded beyond the traditional roles to include sustainability directors, community engagement groups, NGOs, health and safety directors, diversity managers, and others. Moreover, decision-making parameters, which were once primarily focused on financial metrics such as return on investment and cost-benefit analysis, have broadened to include factors such as carbon footprint, socioeconomic impacts, climate change considerations, and more.
As a result, identifying a technically optimal solution or design is no longer sufficient. Designers must now strive to find a balanced solution that maximizes stakeholder satisfaction without significantly compromising technical performance.
