Green pavements can be defined as roadways that use fewer long-term resources and/or create lower levels of “greenhouse” gasses, from all sources, over the life of the pavement. While many other approaches may warrant consideration, such as using mass transit, green vehicles or even bicycle riding, etc., this webinar concentrates on roadways in particular, recognizing that other aspects of green initiatives will take place in any event. There are several green rating systems that have been developed to evaluate the environmental friendliness of transportation design and rehabilitation projects. This webinar introduces the concepts of green rating systems and provides worked examples of three of the more commonly used systems for roadway projects.
