PlaceMaking: Where Arts and Heritage Collide
Three days of interactive workshops, walking tours, networking and social events. Two provincial organizations, one giant conference.

Arts BC & Heritage BC present: “PlaceMaking: Where Arts and Heritage Collide”

Placemaking – the planning, design and management that creates inspirational public space by utilizing heritage buildings and cultures, local communities, and the arts. Set on Granville Island, a jewel in the crown of placemaking, which through planning moved from industry to artistry to become the tourism draw and community hub it is today.

Opening the conference are our two keynote speakers. Norman Hotson, AIBC, AAA, OAA, FRAIC, RCA, was the coordinating architect for our host location and lauded example of placemaking; Granville Island. Dr. Nancy Mackin PhD, AIBC, LEED AP, Adjunct Professor, University of Victoria practices her love of architecture and teaches in communities throughout northwestern Canada, with a focus on landscapes and building designs of indigenous peoples. Both of their unique experiences with placemaking make our keynote addresses a must-see!

Other scheduled workshops include: “BC Society Act Changes”, “The value of the Modern Heritage as a Cultural Resource”, “Researching the History of a Building”, “From the Foundation, Up – Communication Planning Basics”, “Using Unlikely Space for Community Placemaking”, “Placing Art at the Forefront of Development”, and so many more!
