Legal Traps, Tips and Trends to Shape Your Professional Future
This session is part of AIBC’s 2020 Fall Professional Development Series
Architects are routinely involved in public projects as the owners’ consultant, whether for a B.C. municipality or provincial agency. In this role, they need to stay abreast of the legal obligations and potential liability for themselves and their public owner clients. This session will examine commonly seen legal issues involving architects in the delivery of public projects and discuss best practices to safeguard against the potential risk they create for architects and their clients. The presentation will offer insight from past experiences, advise on current best practices, and explore future trends, all with the view of enabling architects to put their best professional practices forward for B.C. clients. The session will also explore construction trends that will impact architects’ responsibilities and liabilities as an owner’s consultant, such as BIM and IPD contracts, Good Faith contractual duties and Prompt Payment legislation and Social Procurement.
