Post-Disaster Building Assessment Training Workshop

The AIBC Post Disaster Response Committee is working in collaboration with BC Housing and Engineers & Geoscientists of BC, to establish a roster of trained volunteers who are available to be deployed in the event of a disaster.
This January, the AIBC be offering a full day training session for members interested in being volunteers in this program. Architects, intern architects, architectural technologists and other interested individuals are invited to attend.
The training program will include an introduction to earthquakes and other hazards, with an overview of different levels of response. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the field about case studies and learn from their relevant experience. An overview of the types of assessments (Rapid vs Detailed vs Engineering Evaluation, ATC 20/45) will provided as well as a review the ATC 20 field guide, and specific building types found in Vancouver. During this program, tools will be provided for volunteers to perform Post Disaster Building Assessments (PDBA) of structures in the aftermath of a disaster, as volunteers for local jurisdictions. Representatives from BC Housing and Emergency Management BC will provide some local context and provide updates on the municipal and provincial level.
Attendees who have previously attended this training program will already have the field guide, and as such are eligible for a discounted rate. If the field guide has been lost or damaged, please select the regular rate to purchase the material again.
Seating is limited. Registration for the workshop will close either when full or seven days prior to the date of the workshop.
Morning coffee/tea, two breaks and lunch will be included.
