RAIC – AI and Architecture: A Practical Guide to Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Quality control is one of the most promising and least understood applications of AI in architecture. Review cycles are compressed, experienced reviewers are stretched thin, and the errors that slip through resurface later as RFIs, change orders, and field conflicts. This session offers a clear-eyed look at where AI fits into QA/QC today, without the hype and without rehashing AI basics.
We’ll explore what AI genuinely does well in document review, from reading specifications and schedules to flagging inconsistencies across a drawing set, and where it breaks down, including hallucination, context limits, and inconsistent results. Understanding these failure modes is the difference between a tool that saves your team time and one that creates false confidence. You’ll also learn how teams can start using general-purpose LLMs today for text-based QC, with practical guidance on prompting and verification, plus a survey of the emerging landscape of purpose-built QA/QC tools.
Attendees will leave with a realistic understanding of AI’s capabilities and limits in document quality, concrete ways to apply it, and a framework for evaluating tools as the space matures.
