RAIC – AI and Optimizing Envelope Retrofits
High-performing building envelopes are the most effective way to reduce the thermal needs of buildings. Despite the substantial energy savings available, building envelope retrofits are often delayed due to high perceived costs and limited actionable data. Traditional methods of assessing the building envelope tend to be intrusive, provide superficial data, and are difficult to scale across large building portfolios.
Paired with drone-data capture, AI and IR imaging present a scalable and cost-effective solution. Drones can efficiently capture high-resolution, close proximity thermal and visual images of the building envelope. AI can then process hundreds of thousands of images, quickly pinpointing building envelope risks and accurately measuring energy loss. This detailed analysis enables targeted retrofit recommendations customized to the specific needs of the building envelope, maximizing both energy savings and ROI.
This presentation will detail several case studies of various building types that leveraged AI to inform building envelope retrofits and planning.
