The Heritage Register is a key tool in the City of Vancouver’s heritage conservation program, providing formal recognition of heritage value, and potential access to a range of options intended to assist owners in preserving historic places. Legal protection goes a step further to secure the future of a site. But on a practical level, what does it mean to be on the Heritage Register or to legally protect a property? How does the City decide what should be on the Register and how does it affect the home and building owners who look after these historic sites?
