Vancouver Regional Construction Association – Mass Timber Construction
What does it take to efficiently engineer and build mass timber structures? How can timber be integrated into a project so that the structure is cost-competitive, while still maintaining the architectural vision, elegance and quality? We will explore these questions through the lens of significant mass timber projects completed across British Columbia and North America.
This presentation will also discuss the prescriptive allowances for commercial wood buildings within the 2018 BCBC. It will provide an overview of the 3.2.2. Building Size and Construction Relative to Occupancy and 3.2.3. Spatial Separation and Exposure Protection requirements for light frame wood, heavy timber, and encapsulated mass timber buildings.
