The 2015 AIBC Annual Conference will feature the specialized workshop, Post Disaster Safety Assessment Program (SAP) Training. This workshop, based on California’s Safety Assessment Program (SAP), will provide guidelines and procedures for making post-disaster building evaluations.
The purpose of these evaluations is to determine whether damaged or potentially damaged buildings are safe for use or if entry should be restricted or prohibited. The instructors will provide attendees with an understanding of their potential role on a damage assessment team and provide guidance on evaluating structural, geotechnical, life safety and nonstructural hazards.
Upon completion of this full day training, Architects, Intern architects, Technologists and architectural students will be eligible to register on the AIBC’s Post Disaster Volunteer Database upon its creation.

Michael Lingerfelt FAIA, LEED AP

Michael is a high-energy executive with more than 33 years experience in design and project delivery who is the current Director of Project Architecture & Engineering for Walt Disney Imagineering. To date, he has built over $3.6B in hard construction. Michael has served on the American Institute of Architects Disaster Assistance Committee since 2007 and has been a California Emergency Management Agency Safety Assessment Program (SAP) Trainer since 2008. Over the course of his career, he has trained over 1,240 architects, engineers, building officials and inspectors.

Daniel Stevens, M.Sc., A.B.C.P
Workshop W1 – Post Disaster (SAP) Training (6 core LUs)
Daniel is the Director of Emergency Management for the City of Vancouver and has contributed to emergency management at the City since 2006. He has worked on a wide range of initiatives, including the development of emergency plans, hazard risk assessments, emergency operations centre redesign & emergency management information system implementation. Daniel has held senior positions in the Vancouver Emergency Operations Centre during large planned events and emergencies, such as the 2010 Winter Olympics, the 2011 Stanley Cup riot and various chemical fires.

Michael Andrews, CEM

Mike joined the tri-municipal North Shore Emergency Management Office (NSEMO) as an Emergency Planning Officer in 2012 after serving over 7 years with Emergency Management BC as a Regional Manager in the Southwest Region. In the course of his tenure with EMBC, he served as the Director of Provincial Regional Emergency Operations Centres (PREOCs) in all six regions of BC. His emergency management experience ranges from floods & fires to hazardous materials incidents & environmental spills and from search & rescue to public safety planning for the 2010 Olympics.
