The Yunesit’in First Nation (YFN), in partnership with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, hosted its second annual Career Fair on March 10, 2016 in Williams Lake, B.C.
The AIBC was in attendance, represented by Ayesha Laher, Manager of Registration. The day-long Career Fair was well received by the YFN and community members, which saw a turnout of over 100 people. Many event attendees dropped by the AIBC display to learn more about the profession of architecture.
The Career Fair was an opportunity for First Nations participants to discuss training and career prospects with building industry professionals and post-secondary education institutions. The YFN developed the First Nation Construction Industry Education (FNCIE) project aimed at engaging neighbouring First Nations, Yunesit’in members and industry partners. The purpose of FNCIE is to help develop economic opportunities for the community and to increase exposure to education, training and career pathways in the building, design and construction industries.
