The AIBC’s proposed Investigations and Discipline bylaw amendments put forward for electronic vote have received strong approval from the institute’s voting members, with 97 per cent of voters in support. The requisite 2⁄3 support for the bylaws was achieved.
The Investigations and Discipline bylaws (37.0 through 37.42) elevate the Rules for Professional Conduct Process of the AIBC to bylaw status and establish a non-disciplinary option for resolution of certain complaints known as “remedial recommendation”. Note: As of August 2016, the Rules for the Professional Conduct Process were replaced by AIBC Bylaws 37.0 through 37.42. New procedural rules authorized by these bylaws are in development. Readers should refer to the bylaws.
With an overall participation rate of 23 per cent, voter turnout remained steady and is comparable with the spring 2015 bylaw e-vote turnout of 27 per cent.
Under the Architects Act, notice of bylaw changes must be sent to the provincial government within seven days of passage. This filing took place on July 11, 2016. The government has 45 days to consider whether to disallow the bylaws. Confirmation to members of final bylaw status will follow.
Our thanks go out to all members and honorary members who participated in this important process.
