Members will recall that Bylaw 10 was amended at the May 2012 annual meeting, replacing the initials “MAIBC” with “Architect AIBC” as an architect’s title in British Columbia. It is critical for the profession to use and for the public to see a consistent title.
“Architect AIBC” is intended to better serve the public and profession’s interest by making use of the protected title “architect” prominently, followed by the provincial “AIBC” indication. This combination is common across Canada and reflects a growing effort to harmonize architectural regulation wherever reasonably possible.
Please take a moment to review email signatures, websites, business cards and letterhead to ensure proper representation. Updates to email signatures, and on other digital platforms, are particularly easy and quick to do.
For further information regarding the proper use of the title “Architect AIBC”, please refer to AIBC Bulletin 21: Architect AIBC Title.
