Participate In the Consultation Process for Bylaw Review: Associates

August 25, 2016

Since 2011, the AIBC has been engaged in a comprehensive bylaw review process to address both substantive bylaw subject matter areas and more routine amendments. The Bylaw Review Committee (BRC), supported by AIBC Council, is advancing the following initiative.

Bylaw Amendments: Associates

In March 2015, council formally asked the BRC to review bylaws related to AIBC associates and provide recommendations to council for amendment, repeal and new bylaw development that may be deemed advisable. After completing its analysis, the BRC recommended simplifying the current bylaws into a suite of four bylaws.

The thrust of these proposed amendments is to require AIBC Council to establish qualifications for admission and appropriate designations for every associate class. Qualifications and designations would be created by council rules. A draft set of rules, mirroring the existing qualifications for associates, has been proposed and is available for review and comment along with the proposed bylaw amendments.

Read the bylaw amendments and supporting rationales.

Consultation

Consultation sessions for the Associate Bylaw amendments are scheduled for the month of September 2016, with a submission seeking council’s direction to proceed to member vote expected at the September 28 council meeting. The consultation sessions are available both in-person and online.

Consultation Sessions Details

Council policy requires member consultation when any bylaw amendments are supported by council. AIBC Council invites your participation at the following consultation sessions, which will address the proposed bylaw amendments. The sessions will open with a presentation, followed by a question and answer period.
