John Weselake Architect AIBC, born in Winnipeg in 1947, passed away at home on July 29, 2016. Weselake graduated from St. Paul’s High School and went on to study Fine Arts and Architecture at the University of Manitoba. He was admitted to the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 1992.
Weselake practiced at Smith Carter Partners prior to founding his own practice, working with the Northern Flood Capital Reconstruction Authority. His firm also designed schools in York Factory and Fort Alexander.
Toward the end of the 1990s, Weselake worked on a number of projects in Washington State. Also in the 1990s, he served on the Board of St. John’s-Ravenscourt School as chair of the property committee.
After working on the west coast, Weselake joined the Public Schools Finance Board of the Province of Manitoba, retiring in May as Acting Executive Director.
Throughout his career, John Weselake served the architectural profession with integrity and honour, taking on the roles vice president and chair of a discipline committee. He received a Meritorious Service Award for his service.
