On November 8, 2016, the AIBC Council approved, in principle, revised Council Rules for Continuing Education System (CES). With the aim of strengthening the program and facilitating compliance, the proposed amendments formalize current practice and provide enhanced clarity.
As per Council Policy 3.10, members and associates are given at least 30 days’ notice regarding any proposed amendments to council rules. The notification period opens today, November 9, 2016, at 10 a.m. and closes December 8, 2016 allowing members and associates to share feedback or questions through an online feedback form.
The updated council rules are mostly housekeeping (e.g. improved syntax) and procedural in nature. As such, there will be little to no impact on architects or architectural technologists for the 2016-18 CES reporting period.
Two samples of the amendments include:
- Removal of obsolete provisions, such as references to one-year reporting periods and associate classes that no longer exist.
- Architects and architectural technologists will continue to be able to carry up to 18 Core LUs forward for a given reporting period. However, Non-core LUs are no longer eligible for carry over starting in the 2018-20 CES reporting period. This is to ensure that extraordinary continuing education efforts focus on foundational and structured learning.
Read the proposed rules in full.
Please submit your feedback via the online feedback form by midnight on December 8, 2016. All feedback (without identifying information) is provided to council prior to its consideration and vote on amended rules.
Council is expected to vote on these rules in late December. Once approved the updated rules will be released along with an updated version of Bulletin 80. The amended rules will go into effect during the current (2016-18) CES reporting period.
