New proposed rules have been authorized by the recent electronic vote on associate bylaws, which received strong (95 per cent) approval from the institute’s voting members in mid-November. On November 30, 2016, AIBC Council approved the rules proposed here, in principle, for member notification.
The proposed rules reflect the status quo for designation and admission qualifications for Intern Architects AIBC and Architectural Technologists AIBC, and establish basic rules for Retired Architects AIBC. These rules were previously shared with members during the consultation period for associate bylaws.
As per Council Policy 3.10, members and associates are given at least 30 days’ notice regarding any rules that council is considering for future council approval. The notification period opens today, December 1, 2016 at 9 a.m. and closes Friday, January 6, 2017 at midnight for members and associates to provide feedback through an online form.

Please submit your feedback via the online feedback form by midnight on Friday, January 6, 2017. All feedback is provided to council prior to its consideration and vote on the proposed rules.
Council is expected to vote on these rules at its January 16, 2017 meeting, after the government disallowance period for the associate bylaws lapses in early January. Council wishes to proceed with the rule notification process in anticipation of the bylaws becoming effective in early January.
