Two Lieutenant Governor Appointees to AIBC Council Announced

January 4, 2017

The provincial government has named Ms Barbara Ann Brink and Ms Cynthia Grauer as Lieutenant Governor (LG) appointees to the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) Council effective December 2, 2016.

Ms Barbara Ann Brink is Vice-President of Applied Strategies Ltd., a management-consulting firm. Previously, Ms Brink was a driving force behind the creation of British Columbia’s Science World, which she returned to in 1997 to serve as Chief Executive Officer during a period of restructure and repositioning. With a new CEO in place, she chaired the Board of Governors for four years.

Active in her community, Ms Brink serves on several boards including the Chartered Professional Accountants of B.C. (CPABC) and Junior Achievement of B.C. (JABC), where she is also the co-chair of the Business Laureates of British Columbia Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremonies Cabinet, an initiative created by JABC to honour British Columbia business leaders whose efforts have shaped the province and country. Former commitments include chairing the Vancouver General Hospital Foundation and The University of British Columbia Foundation as well as board positions with the B.C. Cancer Agency and the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific.

In 2014, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Business in Vancouver’s Influential Women in Business. The following year, in 2015, an Honorary CA designation was conferred in recognition of her efforts during the merger with the CMA’s and CGA’s to form CPABC.

Ms Brink is a Member of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.

Ms Cynthia Grauer is Principal of GR Strategies Inc., a management-consulting firm specializing in the development and execution of strategic plans and initiatives in the areas of stakeholder relations and partnership development with and between businesses, governments and communities. Ms Grauer has over 25 years of experience in senior levels of government and business, an excellent reputation and record of results.

In the past, she served as a Commissioner of the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission.  She also served as a senior advisor to Cabinet Ministers in both Ontario and Ottawa and subsequently as a member of the Board of Viacom Canada Limited and the British Columbia Trade Development Corporation.  In the community, Ms Grauer serves on the Boards of the Writers Trust of Canada and Emergency Communications for Southwest British Columbia Inc.

The Government of British Columbia’s Board Resourcing and Development Office designates LG appointees, for voluntary roles, to regulatory bodies such as the AIBC with the express purpose of protecting the public interest. There are four such positions on AIBC Council.
