2017 AIBC Annual Conference Registration Now Open!

March 17, 2017

The Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) invites you to attend the 2017 Annual Conference – Interpreting Integration from May 8–10, 2017 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. Delegates can earn up to 15 Learning Units (LUs) by attending the annual conference.

Keynote Presentation “Economy as Ethic” by Brian MacKay-Lyons, NSAA

Renowned Nova Scotia-based architect Brian MacKay-Lyons, NSAA will kick off this year’s keynote presentation on Economy as Ethic. In his address, MacKay-Lyons will explore the engagement of two interrelated primary principles: economy and place.  Economy as an ethical imperative leads to an effort to make the most with the least, and to make maximal experiential and spatial richness with minimal form, material and cost. Reinforcing this imperative is an architect’s engagement of their place of practice, its climate, landform and material culture.

MacKay-Lyons is a partner at MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects Ltd., a firm that has built an international reputation for design excellence with more than 100 awards including six Governor General Awards, two American Institute of Architects Honor Awards for Architecture, eight Canadian Architect Awards, three Architectural Record Houses Awards, and seven North American Wood Design Awards.

In 2015, Brian was awarded the RAIC Gold Medal, Canada’s highest honour for lifetime achievement in architecture. He is a fellow with both the RAIC and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA). Most
recently he was awarded an International Fellow from the Royal Institute of British Architects (Int. FRIBA) in January, 2016.
