In Passing: Honorary Member of the AIBC James (Jim) Axel Carlberg

April 3, 2017

Honorary Member of the AIBC James (Jim) Axel Carlberg passed away peacefully Friday, March 17, 2017 at the age of 91.

Mr. Carlberg was born in Claresholm, Alberta. After graduating high school, he moved to Seattle where he received his architectural degree from the University of Washington. Shortly afterward in 1954, he established his architectural firm CJP Architects in New Westminster, which in 2012 merged with Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd.

Mr. Carlberg will be remembered for his depth of knowledge, rich experience and commitment to the profession. His 55+ years of practice included many major civic and government projects, as well as education, health care and recreational facilities.

Douglas College’s New Westminster and David Lam Campuses, the Performing Arts Expansion at York House School, the Northern Rockies Regional Recreation Centre, as well as the B.C. Children’s Clinical Support Building and Chilliwack Hospital Addition are a few of the projects he worked on.

Mr. Carlberg was an avid boater and sport fisherman, enjoying holidays on the Sunshine Coast. He loved nature and the outdoors, and passed this appreciation on to his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Frances (married 67 years), and their children Laura, Mark (Karen), Lisa (Gary) and Greg (Grace) and grandchildren plus close extended family and friends.

No service by request. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
