The AIBC will be conducting an electronic vote on proposed Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) Bylaws. The voting period for the council-endorsed bylaws will commence on June 13, and continue until July 13 at 4 p.m. (PDT). All eligible members and honorary members are encouraged to cast their ballot.
Feedback shared during the extensive spring consultation phase was generally either positive or consisting of questions related to insurance issues. Thanks to member input, several themes were identified. As a result, bylaw language was streamlined and, a means, through council rules, was added to handle (currently unforeseen) future scenarios where council may want to exempt or modify insurance requirements.
The thrust of the proposed bylaws remains the introduction of mandatory PLI for certificate of practice holders (i.e., architectural firms). Council rules would continue to establish specifics such as minimum amounts of coverage as well as the mechanism by which evidence of insurance is provided.
Should the new bylaws pass, compliance with mandatory PLI bylaws would be anticipated for the 2019 annual renewal cycle.
Following the usual bylaw e-voting procedure, an electronic ballot will be emailed directly to eligible voters on June 13 from vote@simplyvoting.com. The email will include:
- Instructions on how to vote electronically;
- Unique elector ID and password; and
- A link to the electronic ballot.
Members are reminded that their vote matters. With electronic voting in place, it takes but a few minutes to cast a ballot.
