Technical Safety BC is requesting feedback on the following proposed changes to the Elevating Devices Safety Regulation:
- Adopt the 2016 edition of the ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, including:
- Requiring maintenance control programs for all new and existing elevating devices; and
- Requiring specific intervals for safety system test programs and escalator test programs.
- Define supervision of mechanics-in-training in the Elevating Devices Safety Regulation.
The proposed changes for maintenance control plans and safety system test programs would not apply to lifts for persons with physical disabilities or personnel hoists.
