In 2017, the Governance Committee and AIBC Staff began an initiative to review and update the Code of Conduct Including Conflict of Interest Guidelines For AIBC Council, Boards, Committees, Task Forces and Representatives. The Code was created back in March 2001, and contained outdated and redundant information. In addition to AIBC Council, it’s scope also included operational Boards, Committees, Task Forces and Representatives.
In revising the Code, it was determined that the existing document be split into two documents:
- Council Code of Conduct (now available)
- Code of Conduct for Operational Boards, Committees, and Task Forces (coming soon)
The purpose of the Council Code of Conduct is to set out the essential behavioural expectations and standards that apply to all councilors and invited guests to council. In addition, it establishes principles supported by Council Policy, Council Rules and other AIBC documents. AIBC Council approved the new Code at its May 2018 meeting.
An updated operational Code of Conduct for Boards, Committees and Task Forces is now being developed. Once available, it will also be posted on the AIBC website.
