The 2018 Land Awards Gala took place on October 11, 2018, hosted by the Real Estate Foundation of BC. The winners were announced at the event and presented awards, which celebrated initiatives that demonstrated leadership, innovation, and collaboration in sustainable land use in British Columbia.
The awards highlight dynamic, forward-thinking people and organizations. There are two awards for individuals, and three for projects. Under the “Awards for Projects” banner, three subject-matter categories were included:
- Land Use and Conservation
- Built Environment
- Fresh Water and Food Systems
The BC Energy Step Code (Energy Step Code Council) won the Built Environment category.
The Province of British Columbia has committed to ensuring that all new buildings will be net-zero energy-ready by 2032. To help reach this target, industry and local government experts have collaborated to develop the BC Energy Step Code. The Code sets energy-efficiency targets, and encourages builders to determine the best ways to meet them. 15 local governments have adopted the BC Energy Step Code, and 16 more are considering doing so.
The AIBC continues its support of the BC Energy Step Code with Maura Gatensby Architect AIBC representing the institute on the BC Energy Step Code Council.
