On November 14, 2018, AIBC Council approved the proposed suite of Council and Institute Governance bylaws for member vote. The vote for the suite of bylaws is organized into six categories: Seal of the Institute; Officers and Council; Boards, Task Forces and Committees; Remuneration and Expenses; Nominations; and Elections.
Member consultation on the proposed bylaws ran from September 24 until November 2, 2018. Feedback related to the application of the institute seal electronically has resulted in a minor amendment to proposed Bylaw 1.0. The amendment requires council authorization for electronic institute seal use.

The voting period for the council-endorsed bylaws will commence on November 19, and continue until December 14 at 4 p.m. Passage requires a minimum of two-thirds of affirmative ballots cast by eligible voters – members and honorary members are encouraged to cast their ballot.
Following the standard bylaw e-voting procedure, an electronic ballot will be emailed directly to eligible voters on November 19 from vote@simplyvoting.com. The email will include:
- Instructions on how to vote electronically;
- Unique elector ID and password; and
- A link to the electronic ballot.
Important Note:
If your email domain is not Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc., we recommend that your IT department adds Simply Voting to your organization’s safe sender list to ensure maximum email deliverability. All emails will originate from vote@simplyvoting.com and from the following server: email2.simplyvoting.com.
With electronic voting, it only takes a few moments to cast a ballot – your vote matters. Active participation in bylaw initiatives is crucial to both the governance of the Institute and the profession of architecture in B.C.
