Attention all Intern Architects AIBC, BEA Candidates and Student Affiliates! The first-ever AIBC Confab is taking place on May 7, 2019. This one-day professional development event offers an interactive workshop, panel discussions, and seminars – all with the common goal of promoting conversation and a shared learning experience.
The event provides an opportunity for participants to get ahead in the profession and registration process – from learning about the current state of the industry firsthand from practitioners, to getting helpful insight into the road to registration, and many chances to network with fellow architectural professionals.
Here are four reasons why you shouldn’t miss out on AIBC Confab 2019:
- Learn Everything You Need to Know about the ExAC
Get a head start on preparing for the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC) by attending the ExAC Info Session! Hosted by the AIBC’s Registration and Licensing department, this session will outline eligibility requirements, general exam information, and more.Speakers include members of the AIBC’s Intern Architect Committee who will share their experiences, including the advantages of joining a study group and advice on how to set yourself up for success. Attendees will receive important information on how to prepare for the ExAC, as well as the opportunity to ask questions and speak with the AIBC in-person. - Learn about the Roads to Registration with Mission Possible
Mission Possible is a moderated panel discussion which explores the different routes to registration – this year’s theme is mentorship, which is an important component of the registration process. Presented by the AIBC’s Intern Architect Committee, the many aspects of successful mentor/mentee relationship will be discussed. This session is also an opportunity for interns and students to connect socially and explore relevant topics surrounding internship. - Gain Valuable Insight Into the Current State of the Profession
Be part of the conversations that are happening regarding architecture in B.C. and impact the future of the profession (which is a session you can attend!). AIBC Confab 2019 features four streams which cover different topic areas, ranging from business to design. Sessions have been selected to encourage healthy debate and contrasting opinions – we encourage you to bring your unique voice to the many conversations that will be occurring throughout the day.If you’re looking to tailor your learning to a specific area, Confab also offers sessions which cover technical aspects of the profession, such as “Green Zoning versus Green Building”, “Heritage Structure: Opportunities and Challenges” and “Understanding Real Feng Shui and Its Impact on Architecture.” Visit conference.aibc.ca to see the full lineup of speakers and event program. - Grow your Professional Network
There are many opportunities at AIBC Confab to connect with fellow delegates and network. Whether it be in one of the event’s “Conversation Lounges” – outfitted areas where you can continue the discussion from sessions – or during our fully catered lunch or snack break, attendees will have the chance to chat with fellow colleagues and make new connections with other registrants.
