The 2020 Certified Professional (CP) Course is now available for registration. The course is jointly offered by Engineers and Geoscientists BC and the AIBC, and will be based on the 2018 BC Building Code and the 2019 Vancouver Building Bylaw.
The CP Program is an alternative to the conventional building permit and inspection process utilized by the City of Vancouver and the City of Surrey, as well as some other municipalities. Through the program, participating municipalities can issue a building permit on the assurances of a recognized registered professional (engineer or architect) – the CP. The CP Course focuses on Part 3 and the relevant associated provisions of the BC Building Code and the Vancouver Building By-law, and on CP practice.
2020 CP Course Overview
The CP Course schedule consists of 12 full-day sessions on Wednesdays from January 8 to April 8, 2020, with one half-day tutorial on April 15, 2020. Please note there are no classes on February 12 and March 25, 2020. The CP Course concludes with two full-day exams on April 22 and April 29, 2020.
There are 35 seats available for the live seminars at the AIBC offices located at #100 – 440 Cambie Street, Vancouver. An additional 10 positions are available for attendance by webcast.
Although anyone may take the course, only architects and engineers may practice as CPs. Intern Architects AIBC and Engineers In Training who meet all course requirements and pass the exams will be able to practice as CPs when they become B.C. registered architects or engineers.
Cost and Registration
Registration for the CP Course closes on December 3, 2019. The course costs:
- $4,900 (until October 15, 2019)
- $5,300 (after October 15, 2019)
The BC Employer Training Grant may cover up to 60% of your costs; please note you’ll need to set up a BCeID to use the system.
