The AIBC supports individuals pursuing a career as an architect or architectural technologist by providing a selection of scholarships and bursaries. We are delighted to announce that the Institute is now contributing a total of $26,600 to scholarships and bursaries at the University of British Columbia School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, and $5,000 to academic and achievement awards in the School of Construction and the Environment at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. These additions to the program consist of increased contributions to existing scholarships and awards, as well as the creation of a new scholarship and two new bursaries.
University of British Columbia
Since 1948, the AIBC has proudly offered financial support to students at UBC SALA and has committed to increasing support for the existing Architectural Institute of British Columbia Medal as well as the Architectural Institute of British Columbia Scholarships. UBC SALA students will now also be supported with the:
- New: Architectural Institute of British Columbia Entrance Scholarship
This $2,500 entrance scholarship is available to students entering an undergraduate or graduate architecture degree program at the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, with preference for this scholarship given to Canadian First Nations, Inuit or Métis students. - New: Architectural Institute of British Columbia Bursary
UBC bursaries totaling $5,000 are now offered annually for students in the Master of Architecture program, with preference for the bursaries given to Canadian First Nations, Inuit or Métis students. - New: Architectural Institute of British Columbia Centenary Bursary
A $2,100 bursary has been established in recognition of 100 years of regulating the profession of architecture in B.C. It is offered annually to students in the Master of Architecture Program.
“The University of British Columbia was always the dream, slightly-out-of-reach school. Scholarships like the one I received from the AIBC are, in part, the reason this dream became a reality. Having worked non-stop since my early teens to support my education, this award has allowed me to take a step back during the school year to focus on my studies and lend some much-needed balance to my life. I am hoping this balance and focus will help to carry me through my final year, in which I’ll be exploring urbanization and resulting machine landscapes at an architectural scale.”

British Columbia Institute of Technology
The AIBC has also proudly provided financial support to students in the Bachelor of Architectural Science and the Architectural and Building Technology diploma programs since 1966, and now has $5,000 available for two types of BCIT awards in each program: academic awards and achievement awards. Students are nominated and selected for these awards by BCIT faculty members.
“I attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology for their Architectural and Building Technology diploma, and will be continuing my education there with the Bachelor in Architectural Science program this fall, and hopefully a master’s degree in the future. I want to be able to create and plan spaces that others will enjoy and appreciate – the award provides the means to make my objective more attainable and ease the stress of tuition.”
