Are you an AIBC volunteer or interested in joining AIBC Council? Attend an AIBC Governance Session on January 23 or February 25!
The AIBC Governance Session provides registrants with an overview of AIBC governance, the role of the regulator, and fiduciary responsibilities. The session is designed for those interested in putting their name forward for AIBC Council in 2020 or future years. Current AIBC volunteers are also encouraged to attend an AIBC Governance Session.
Note: Attendance is mandatory for council candidates to be eligible for endorsement by the AIBC Nominations Review Committee.
Presented by Kathy McLaughlin, governance specialist and Principal of Kathy McLaughlin & Associates, and Thomas Lutes, Deputy CEO and General Counsel at the AIBC, the Governance Session covers many important topics that are necessary for future council members to be proficient in and well-versed, including the policy governance model, fiduciary duties, and the role of the regulator.
As an example of what will be covered, AIBC Council members have a fiduciary duty in relation to the Institute and its public-interest mandate at all times. This responsibility requires council members to act honestly and in good faith; avoid and address conflicts of interest; maintain the confidentiality of information they acquire by virtue of being a councilor; and serve the Institute selflessly and loyally.
Sessions will be held twice per year (January 23 and February 25 in 2020), with each session being eligible for 2 Core LUs. Registration is complimentary, and lunch will be available for those attending in person. WebEx is available for those attending remotely.
