The Architectural Institute of British Columbia congratulates the 2020 graduating classes of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Master of Architecture program, and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Bachelor of Architectural Science and Architectural & Building Technology Diploma programs.
This year’s graduates faced additional obstacles and challenges in their final term, with the global pandemic impacting their studies and end-of-year projects, as well as their graduation celebrations. Instead of holding in-person graduation events, recognitions were held virtually.
UBC’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) held its virtual ceremony on June 17 and has shared the list of graduation award recipients online. Upon the recommendation of UBC SALA faculty, Jesse Martyn was named the 2020 recipient of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia medal, which is presented to an outstanding graduating Master of Architecture student who has demonstrated academic excellence in design and who holds the promise of making a contribution to the profession of architecture.
BCIT held its virtual graduation ceremony on June 23 and award recipients include Colin Pinchin, who received the AIBC Award in Architectural Science, and Ruby Dionisio, recipient of the AIBC Award in Architecture. Students completing the Bachelor of Architectural Science program were scheduled to display their graduating projects at the 2020 AIBC Conference, but given the cancellation of the event, they have instead compiled their project posters into a virtual display. The interactive display includes more than 20 projects, and can be viewed at architecturalconnections.ca/grad/.
The AIBC proudly supports students pursuing a career as an Architect AIBC or Architectural Technologist AIBC by providing a selection of scholarships and bursaries at UBC and BCIT. Visit the scholarship and bursary program webpage to learn more.
Congratulations once again to the 2020 graduates.
