The new Guide to the Letters of Assurance in the BC Building Code 2018 and Vancouver Building By-law 2019 is now available. The document was published by Building and Safety Standards Branch, and was developed in consultation with AIBC, Engineers and Geoscientists BC, and Building Officials’ Association of BC.
The purpose of the Guide to the Letters of Assurance in the BC Building Code 2018 and the Vancouver Building By-law 2019 is to foster the appropriate and consistent use and application of Letters of Assurance. It provides guidance on:
- the scope and intent of Letters of Assurance;
- roles and responsibilities of persons executing Letters of Assurance; and
- when and how Letters of Assurance should be completed.
Please note there have been no fundamental changes to the guidance in the document; however, the new version includes additional details, and addresses several issues that were not in the previous guide.
The AIBC would like to extend special thanks to Brian Sim Architect AIBC, Teresa Coady Architect AIBC, and George Humphrey Honorary Member of the AIBC, who represented the Institute on the development working group.
