The following is an announcement from the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB)
The Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) is planning a national conference that will take place October 28–29, 2022, in Ottawa, Ontario. The conference theme, Architecture Continuum: Collaborate, Educate, Integrate explores the career trajectory of the architect from early discovery to formal education, internship, examination, licensure, and lifelong learning through practice and continuing education. The conference theme will bring together the CACB and its collateral organizations to examine “how to make the architecture education continuum better integrated for students, educators, interns, and practitioners”.
In order to engage the broader architecture community in setting the stage for the conference, the Conference Committee is re-issuing an open call for ‘issue papers’ on topics that examine the current and future state of architectural education. Once collated and summarized, the Conference Committee will use these issue papers to help frame the discussions at the October 2022 conference.
The Conference Committee invites participants to identify issues and, if possible, provide documentation that support diverse perspectives for specific issues in architectural education and internship. These can include speculative visions of the future, changing modes in professional practice or education, the needs of students and interns, or regulatory issues. Recommendations for changes to the CACB Conditions and Procedures are also welcome. The Conference Committee expects that these issue papers be as concise and precise as possible but are not limited in length.
Please note that the submission of an issue paper does not necessarily require or result in attendance at the conference.
If you are interested in identifying and submitting an issue, please use the Issue Identification Form on the CACB Conference website. Please identify the issue, discuss the context, support analysis and arguments with facts and background information, and then provide conclusions and recommendations for improvement.
Please send the issue papers to cacbconference@cacb.ca by May 31, 2022.
