Dear colleagues,
This year, April 24 to 30 is National Volunteer Week across Canada. We would like to thank all 200+ AIBC volunteers, who over the past year have contributed nearly 8,500 hours to the Institute and the architectural profession in British Columbia. You played a critical role in advancing our public-interest mandate.
These last few years have been filled with challenges and opportunities, and we especially appreciate your dedication as we progress through the Professional Governance Act transition, and resilience as we continue to navigate the many waves of the pandemic.
Get Involved – AIBC Volunteer Opportunities
Under the PGA, there will be some changes to the Volunteer Program, but the AIBC will continue to rely upon expert volunteers to accomplish the important work of the Institute. The public and profession are best served by volunteers from diverse locations and backgrounds – we encourage volunteers to regularly review volunteer opportunities to see where they may be able to contribute their expertise and knowledge. Some examples of current opportunities include:
- Municipal Advisory Design Panels
- Certified Professional Advisory Group
- Design Panel Committee
- Oral Review Panelists
… and many more! All available positions can be found on aibc.ca/volunteer-opportunities, and qualified registrants are encouraged to apply by emailing volunteers@aibc.ca.
AIBC Recognition Ceremony
In the past, the AIBC has recognized and thanked volunteers in-person at the Recognition Ceremony, an event which acknowledges individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the profession, community, and Institute. Although we have not been able to hold the ceremony for the past several years given the COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to emphasize that our volunteers’ contributions are just as significant and appreciated. We do look forward and hope to return to an in-person format in 2023.
Thank You to our AIBC Volunteers
It cannot be said enough: thank you, AIBC volunteers. Your contributions are critical to furthering our public-interest mandate, especially as we enter this next phase of regulation with the Professional Governance Act. We encourage you to get involved, as your service strengthens the governance of the Institute and profession of architecture across the province.
We look forward to the exciting year ahead and resuming some in-person meetings. In the meantime, we hope you, your families, and your teams are safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
