The Architectural Institute of British Columbia regulates the profession of architecture in the interest of the public, and only individuals who are registered by the AIBC with the right to practice may offer architectural services in British Columbia.
The AIBC provides an Online Directory of all AIBC-registered architects, associates, firms and temporary licensees. On April 18, the AIBC officially relaunched the Online Directory, featuring a new layout and display. The primary functionality remains the same.
To begin a search, simply:
- Go to aibc.ca/resources/online-directory/
- Select the registrant category (Architect, Firm or Associate) at the bottom of the page
- Fill in at least one of the displayed fields (e.g. last name, employer, etc.)
- Click the “Submit” button
Notable Changes and Upcoming Features
Of note, when searching for an architectural firm, only regulatory information will be displayed – this means that typical commissions, awards and honours, as well as areas of practice will not be available through the online directory as these areas are not regulated by the AIBC.
Practice locations for sole proprietors are available in the following format: City, Province, Country. Full street addresses for sole proprietors are not displayed, although this is currently being reviewed in relation to Professional Governance Act, specifically regarding what information is required to be published publicly through the online register.
Additional functionality will be added in the coming months, including being able to search for temporary licensees, and other regulatory fields for architectural firms.
