Rise for Architecture, in partnership with Angus Reid Institute (ARI), have released the findings from their national survey which polled Canadians on what they want and need from the design of their communities and the built environment. The online survey included viewpoints from a randomized sample of nearly 2,000 Canadians from the general population, who were polled between January 20-24, 2022, summarized in a report by ARI.
Key findings from the report include:
- Canadians are near-unanimous that accessibility (96%), aesthetic beauty (92%), and sustainability (90%)
should be prioritized in new buildings in their community - Three-quarters of respondents said that the culture and heritage of the community should be a key
consideration in their design - Canadians want more inclusive communities and improvements to accountability
- Canadians are supportive of new roles which would be responsible for encouraging better design outcomes,
such as a Chief Architect or similar title, in both their community (70%) and province (56%)
