The provincial government has been undertaking amendments to the Professional Governance Act (PGA). The amendments passed Royal Assent on June 2, 2022. All amendments are now in force, except for some terminology changes (e.g. “Council” to “Board”), which will come into force in spring 2023.
Many amendments were put forward. However, there are eight changes to the legislation that are particularly noteworthy for AIBC registrants:
- Continuing Education Compliance
- Repair Drafting Errors to Allow for Designation of New Regulatory Bodies under the PGA
- Office of Superintendent of Professional Governance Levies
- Terminology Changes
- Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and Practices
- Referenda and Motions from the Floor
- Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)
- Less Onerous ‘Declaration’ Requirements
Summary descriptions of the above amendments can be found on the AIBC website: aibc.ca/2022/05/professional-governance-act-amendments-and-next-steps/. The Professional Governance Act can be found on the provincial government website.
