Applications for the 2022 Women4Climate Mentorship Program are open from July 18 to August 14.
Program Overview
In 2019, Vancouver became the eighth city to launch a local C40 Women4Climate (W4C) Mentorship Program. Now in 20 cities worldwide, the W4C Mentorship Program aims to empower the next generation of self-identifying women to become climate leaders to create a healthier, greener, more equitable and resilient urban future.
This year the W4C Mentorship Program aims to advance bold, local climate action in alignment with Vancouver’s Climate Emergency Action Plan and/or Climate Adaptation Strategy. The organization will continue to match committed climate leaders from the public and private sector, as well as leaders from international and community organizations with emerging women leaders who are looking for a mentorship. Over the 10-month mentorship period from Oct 2022 to Jul 2023, mentors share their knowledge, experiences, and support the mentees to develop their leadership skills while advancing their climate initiative.
Mentees’ climate initiative should align with one of the following goal areas:
Climate Emergency Action Plan
- 90% of people living within an easy walk or roll of their daily needs
- Two-thirds of trips in Vancouver to be by active transportation and transit
- 50% of the km driven on Vancouver’s roads to be by zero emission vehicles
- 50% reduction in carbon pollution from building operations (compared to 2007)
- 40% fewer embodied emissions from new buildings and construction projects (compared to 2018)
- Natural carbon sequestration (target under development)
Climate Adaptation Strategy
- Climate robust infrastructure
- Climate resilient buildings
- Healthy and vigorous natural areas and green space
- Connected and prepared communities
- Coastline preparedness
Priority will be given to applicants based on the potential of their initiative to prioritize putting disproportionately impacted communities at the heart of climate action and ensure just and inclusive outcomes.
Applications for this year’s program are open until August 14 at https://www.w4c.org/mentorship/women4climate-vancouver.
