There are new opportunities with British Columbia’s administrative tribunals. The Tribunals and Agency Support Division with the Ministry of Attorney General have two Chair appointment opportunities at the Building Code Appeal Board and the Safety Standards Appeal Board:
- Building Code Appeal Board
The Building Code Appeal Board is a quasi-judicial administrative tribunal established under the Building Act. The Board reviews appeals of local authority decisions on whether a matter conforms to provincial building regulations made under the Building Act. The Board has one part-time Chair position available in British Columbia – more information about the opportunity, including responsibilities, accountabilities, and time commitment, can be found on the provincial government website.
- Safety Standards Appeal Board
The Safety Standards Appeal Board is an independent administrative tribunal established by the Safety Standards Act to hear appeals of administrative decisions made under the Act. The Board’s jurisdiction was expanded in 2007 to allow it to hear appeals from decisions of the registrar under the Homeowner Protection Act and in 2017 to hear appeals of administrative penalties under the Building Act. The Board has one part-time Chair position available – more information about the opportunity, including responsibilities, accountabilities, and time commitment, can be found on the provincial government website.
