The AIBC has several updates and reminders for Intern Architects AIBC regarding important steps in their pathway to registration, including 2023 ExAC registration, the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) deadline, and requirements under Appendix B.
2023 ExAC
The 2023 Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC) is taking place on November 6 and 7. The registration period for the 2023 ExAC will open on June 2 and close on July 14, 2023 at 12 p.m. The deadline for experience submissions is June 30, 2023. More information can be found on the ExAC website.
- Registration Period Opens: June 2
- Registration Period Closes: July 14
- Deadline for Experience Submissions: June 30
- 2023 ExAC Dates: November 6 and 7
Architect Registration Examination (ARE) Deadline Reminder
As previously shared, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards’ Architect Registration Examination (ARE) exam results will only be accepted by the AIBC up until January 31, 2024. This change is being implemented given the ARE focuses on non-Canadian content. Previously, in lieu of the ExAC, the AIBC accepted ARE examinations as meeting the exam requirement towards initial registration.
This means that Intern Architects must have already completed all other requirements under the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) prior to January 31, 2024 in order for ARE results to be accepted.
Appendix B Requirements
Intern Architects AIBC are reminded to review Internship in Architecture Program requirements in Appendix B of the Internship in Architecture Program Manual, specifically the ‘Local Knowledge and Currency of Experience’ section. The AIBC requires Intern Architects AIBC to demonstrate knowledge of local conditions of practice and currency of experience as a requirement for registration. When logging experience hours, it is essential to meet and understand this important requirement.
